Super Collection Figures

ACT-1 PVC Figures Arise!  Cybertrons

Around 26 December 2000, Takara released it's newest PVC (polyvinyl chloride) figures called Transformers: Generation One ACT-1.  These Super Collection Figures (S.C.F.) include Optimus Prime (Convoy), Megatron, Starscream, God Ginrai, Ultra Magnus, and Arcee in both Clear and Color variations.  There are 12 regular and 2 chase figures (14 total) released in ACT-1.  A case (11"x6.25"x6") holds 12 figures and many collectors have received sealed cases which contain all 12 individual figures but there are a few lucky ones who receive a chase figure.

So where do the chase figures come in?  Well, there are 12 boxes in a case and 10 cases in a carton which totals 120 figures.  So a chase figure is believed to be 1 in every 120 figures.  So far I've read that collectors who purchased a case with the letters "B" or "C" (sticker on bottom of case) had one of the chase figures.  By the way, the chase figures are Optimus Prime (Convoy) & Megatron and each have a replaceable Energy Weapon.

I received a set of 12 figures from my friend Masashi Kitano on 9 January 2001...THANKS MASASHI!!  For some reason these figures are not available in my local area which is why I had to check elsewhere.  I suggest you purchase a set if you haven't done so already.  They are worth the money :)

The box containing these figures measures approximately 3" wide, 5 3/4" tall (including flap), and 1 7/8" deep.  Each figure is about 3" tall and is quite detailed which is comparable to Bandai's and other  gashapon (dispenser machines) figures.  I have a set of 6 Z-Gundam Mobile Suit Selection 16 figures which cost 200Yen from the machine and looks just as good.  As a matter of fact, they are about the same size in height and really look cool next the the Transformers.  Takara's figures may cost more (480Yen) than the gashapon prizes but definitely have better character figures and packaging.

Each figure is partially assembled and wrapped in a clear baggy within the box.  In addition, each figure comes with a clear oval S.C.F. stand that has a single peg which connects to the figures foot.  Articulation is limited but what can you expect from a model?

** DAMAGE REPORT **

One thing that many collectors are finding out is that some of the clear figures arrive broken or have duplicate parts.  Here's a list of figures that received "battle damage":

  - Clear Ultra Magnus (left & right leg)
  - Clear Starscream (left leg)
  - Clear Starscream (right arm)
  - Clear Optimus Prime (leg)
  - Clear Megatron (left leg)

Here are some other reported "defects":

  - God Ginrai (2 left legs)
  - Clear Megatron (2 left hands)
  - Clear Megatron (2 right feet)

*** Update ***

So far it looks like if you find a "B" case you'll have the Optimus Prime chase figure.  If you get the "C" case like I did, you'll be happy with the MTMTE Megatron chase figure.  If you want all 12 figures then you're better off getting the "A" case.
