SIXWING |
|
|
|
|
Takara
re-issued its third set of Micromasters called Sixwing in February 2003
which I ordered from BigBadToyStore. Sixwing retails in
Japan for 3,600 (300 per box) was originally released as
TF-02 back in 1992, but has been re-released in different colors and as
a Destron vice Cybertron.
As with previous releases, Takara decided to produce Sixbuilder with US-styled
lettering, tampo printing vice stickers, and follow the PVC-style box.
The box (case) is smaller the standard PVC box which measures
9.75"L x 5.75"W x 5"H. This box contains two sets of six separate
components in individual boxes. Unlike the PVC's, an instruction
sheet is inserted so that the number for each particular figure is
visible through the port hole on the front of the box. This allows you to select a figure
you need
before you open it. There are two sets of Sixwing's per case with
a couple of regular figures replaced by "White" variants which
create Berserker. I received White Raker & Falcon chase figures identified in
RED letters below. The case I received had the
following box layout:

The
individual boxes measure 4"H (4.875"H with flap) x 2.75"W x 1.625"D and is
priced at 300 each which is clearly marked on the case. Each box
contains the individual vehicles in plastic bags, an instruction
sheet/catalog, and parts to create Sixbuilder robot. There are 4
panels on each side of the instruction sheet/catalog printed in black &
white (instructions) and color (catalog). The instruction sheet also
includes a "character spec" which was fully translated by
Doug Dlin and identified in RED throughout
this page.

Wing Team (Sixwing components):
Chaingun, Missile Run, Raker, Supersonic, Flanker, and
Falcon
|
|
Micromaster CHAINGUN
Combat Helicopter
The Wing Team Leader. His
high-performance hovering ability lets him transform freely in
flight. His preferred tactic is to
circle silently around behind his foe and then attack.
"The surest way to defeat an enemy
is from behind," is his motto. Won
the position of leadership by his strength.
- Chaingun is packaged
with Sixwing's Pelvic/Thigh and is identified as figure #1
(Leader)
- Chaingun
transforms and connects to Sixwing's back
VEHICLE
MODE: Chaingun is a Black helicopter with
Orange & Silver parts and a Turquoise rotary blade.
His landing gear is made up of two free spinning wheels located
beneath and on either side of canopy. He measures almost 2.5" in length and his
Destron symbols are tampo stamped on the left & right sides of his
main body.
ROBOT
MODE: To transform Chaingun into robot mode, fold
out the canopy part 180 to create his feet. The second step
is to lift up the tail piece so that it rests over the rotary
blade.
Chaingun now
stands at approximately 2.25" tall in robot mode. His head
is made up of Grey plastic and a close-up shot shows some Blue paint applied to his
visor.
The copyright
marking can be found on the outer right-hand side of his Grey leg
part in robot mode. It is printed in
Black lettering in the
format below:

Micromaster MISSILE RUN
Sonic-Speed Bomber
A schemer, he
is the team's tactical officer. Has
high-performance stealth abilities. With
his strategical instructions to his teammates, he can provide more
precise orders than Chaingun. Harbors
a strong rivalry with Diego of the Liner Team.
- Missile Run is
packaged with Sixwing's Chest and is identified as figure #2
- Missile Run
transforms into Sixwing's chest
VEHICLE
MODE: Missile Run is a Black bomber jet with some
White, Grey and Turquoise parts. Some Silver, Red and Purple
paint is also noted on Missile Run. He has two free spinning
wheels located underneath the main body and towards the rear of the
jet. Missile Run measures approximately 2.25" in length.
His Destron symbol is tampo stamped on the top of the jet.
ROBOT MODE:
To transform Missile Run into robot mode, rotate the tailfin part
upward 180 which will form his feet/base as well as reveal his
Turquoise legs. Lift up the nosepiece 180 which will rest on
Missile Run's back. Now fold the tips of each wing upward and
adjust his legs to stand him up without tipping over.
Unfortunately, his knee joint won't lock into place so Missile Run
leans towards the rear and eventually falls over.
Missile Run stands
at approximately 2.25" tall. In this mode you can see the
Purple paint application on his pelvis as well as Silver on his
torso and Black paint on his helmet.
The copyright
marking can be found under the left wing in vehicle mode which is printed in
White lettering. |

Micromaster RAKER
Space Shuttle
Raker excels in outer space
combat and can make atmospheric re-entry under his own power.
He specializes in diving attacks
from high altitudes. A real flirt,
he has frequently fallen into crises through his relations with
femmes.
- Raker is
packaged with Sixwing's Gun & Right Hand and is identified as
figure #3
- Raker
transforms into Sixwing's right arm
VEHICLE
MODE: Raker is a Black & White space shuttle with some
painted parts such as the windows which are painted Black.
Raker has a pair of static wheels located under the main body and
towards the front. A third free spinning wheel is located
towards the rear of the shuttle. Raker measures approximately 2.75"
in length and has two Destron symbols on top of each wing.
ROBOT MODE:
To transform Raker into robot mode, rotate the two Black parts on
either side of the main body downward slightly, then rotate the rear
of the shuttle upward 180 to create his feet/base. Next,
rotate the nosepiece downwards to create his torso and reveal his
head. Finally, fold the wings inward.
Raker now stands
at approximately 2.25" tall. In this mode you can see that his
helmet has some Silver paint applied to the front of his face.
The copyright
marking can be found at the end of the shuttle in vehicle mode which is printed in
Black lettering. |

Micromaster SUPERSONIC
Supersonic Passenger Jet
Loves beautiful objects, hates taking part in operations that get
his frame dirty. Since he is always
seeking beauty, even in attacks and destruction, he frequently
conflicts with Chaingun over strategies. Prefers
flying at high altitudes above the clouds so rain won't get him wet.
- Supersonic is
packaged with Sixwing's Head & Left Head and is identified as
figure #4
- Supersonic
transforms into Sixwing's left arm
VEHICLE
MODE: Supersonic is an White, Purple and Lavender
Concorde jet with Blue paint applied to his windows. The
Purple paint is applied to the forward edge of his wings as well as
the rear. Supersonic measures approximately 2.75" in length
and two Destron symbols are tampo printed on the top of each wing.
ROBOT MODE:
To transform Supersonic into robot mode, lift the rear section of
the jet up and outward 180 to create his feet/base. Rotate
the nosepiece downward to create his torso and reveal his head.
His Black leg parts should bend slightly towards the rear so that
his weight is evenly displaced over his feet. Lastly, fold the
wing tips upward or facing the front in robot mode.
In this mode,
Supersonic stands at slightly over 2.5" tall. His helmet
is White with some Blue applied to his face which is quite plain in
my opinion.
The copyright
marking can be found under the right wing in vehicle mode and is printed in Black lettering. |

Micromaster FLANKER
Jet Fighter
The kind who's out to please everyone, Flanker specializes overall
in attacking the weak from behind the protection of the strong.
Always alternating in siding with either Chaingun or
Supersonic, he actually views them both as beneath him.
Secretly aiming to take the leader's
position for himself.
- Flanker is packaged
with Sixwing's Right Foot and is identified as figure #5
- Flanker transforms
into Sixwing's right leg
VEHICLE
MODE: Flanker is a Turquoise jet fighter with some
Grey and Black parts. Also noted is Silver, Black and Blue
paint which is applied on the canopy and engines. There are
two free spinning wheels located underneath the body and wings.
There isn't a static forward landing gear which is why the figure
looks like it tilted downward. Flanker measures approximately 2.5" in length
with two Destron symbols tampo printed on
the tope of each wing.
ROBOT MODE:
To transform Flanker into robot mode, pull out the rear section so
that the middle joint, previously in an "L" shape, is parallel to
the rest of the body. Fold the nosepiece upward 180.
Lastly, rotate both wings upward or towards the rear in robot mode.
In this mode,
Flanker now stands at 2.25" tall and reveals more Black parts
with some Silver paint applied to his torso and face. It's
difficult to see in these photos but Flanker has Red paint applied
to his eyes.
The copyright
marking can be found underneath the right wing in vehicle mode and
is printed in
Black lettering. |

Micromaster FALCON
Jet Fighter
The hardest worker on the
Wing Team. Terse of speech, this
soldier follows orders faithfully. However,
he is also the only soldier among the Destrons to wonder why he
evolved into a Destron and not a Cybertron, even as he continues
fighting.
- Falcon is
packaged with Sixwing's Left Foot and is identified as figure #6
- Falcon
transforms into Sixwing's left leg
VEHICLE
MODE: Falcon is a Lavender and Grey fighter jet with
some Silver paint applied to the wings. There is also Blue
paint on the canopy and dark Grey paint applied to his engines.
As with Flanker, Falcon has two free spinning wheels located
underneath the body and wings and no nose gear. Falcon measures approximately 2.25" in
length with two Destron symbols which is tampo printed on the
top of each wing.
ROBOT
MODE: To transform Falcon into robot mode, pull out
the rear section so that the middle joint, previously in an "L"
shape, is parallel to the rest of the body (photo on right shows
Falcon with the "L" shaped joint not extended...damn!). Fold
the nosepiece upward 180. Lastly, rotate both wings upward
or towards the rear in robot mode.
In this mode,
Falcon stands at approximately 2 25" tall. His color scheme
now includes a Turquoise pelvis & torso, Silver painted midsection, and
Red paint applied to parts of his torso and eyes.
The copyright
marking can be found underneath the left wing in vehicle mode which is printed in
Black lettering. |

Skyswipe Jet Mode |
|

I may be translating the catalog incorrectly, but I believe that this
mode is called Skyswipe. I haven't found any mention of this
anywhere, but if I am incorrect, please send me an e-mail :)
The Jet Mode is
created by combining all of the individual pieces that accompanied each
figure. Each of the instruction sheets identify the steps to create this
mode. We'll start off by
taking the chest/shoulder part and connecting it to the pelvic/thigh piece. They
are connected by the pegs on the chest part and the holes behind the
pelvic/thighs. Now take the Gun and slide the pegs on either side
down the rails between the thighs. The Gun now forms the nosepiece
of the Jet. The pelvic/thigh forms the fuselage and chest becomes
part of the wings.
Take the left foot and
connect the inner peg to the hole of the left fist which in turn connects
to the peg on the left side of the chest piece. Do the same for
the right side. Now take Sixwing's head and connect it to the peg
on the back of the chest piece (rear of the jet) and rotate the head so
it's facing downward. The final outcome should look like the
photos provided. |

Berserker
Sixwing |
|
Takara included parts to create this chase figure called Berserker.
As stated earlier, my
case of Sixwing figures included two chase parts which were Raker
and Falcon.
Sixwing's color scheme is White with some Pearl-White parts such as
his chest, pelvis, gun and feet. There are also some paint
applications which include Silver & Gold on his chest piece and
thigh part.
The
Autobot symbol is tampo printed in Purple on each figure. His
head has some Silver paint on his face with Red eyes. It is
odd to see a Cybertron with a Purple Autobot tampo stamp and kind of
made me wonder why not Red?
Anyhow, I
attempted to acquire the missing parts through the Transformers
newsgroup but didn't have any luck. So instead, I searched
online and found out that
Captured Prey
was selling a complete set. In
October 2003 I received my Berserker chase figure and finally found
some time to take some photos and add this page to my site.

ENTER THE DESTRON SIXWING!!
Deep in the night, the shadow of a plane neared
the Cybertron base unnoticed. Using his
stealth abilities to their fullest, Missile Run of
the Sixwing team was attempting to infiltrate the base. Cutting
his engines, Missile Run silently glided in to a landing.
"Transform!"
Shifting to robot mode, he
eluded the automatic surveillance network and succeeded in sneaking
inside. Confirming there was no one
watching the passageway, Missile Run infiltrated even deeper into the
base. His goal was to capture the
Cybertron capsules sleeping in compressed storage. Not
all the Seiberdroids who had crashed on Earth had evolved into
Micromasters. The Seiberdroids who were
in compressed hibernation still remained asleep, not yet given a vehicle
into which to evolve. This measure had
been taken based on a decision by Diego and the other Cybertron
warriors, who had no wish to increase the number of teammates who might
be evolved into Destrons.
The instant Missile Run reached
for the capsules, a piercing alarm rang out, and he found himself held
at gunpoint by Road Police, who was first to charge in.
"Hold up!" Road Police cried out,
bringing Missile Run to a halt.
"You think we'd pass up a
chance to make more friends?" Missile Run snapped sarcastically. Then he
snapped his fingers, and the wall behind
Road Police blew apart with a
roar, the result of a pinpoint attack by the Destron soldier Raker.
Missile Run made good his escape, and the
pursuing Cybertron warriors found themselves faceplate to faceplate with
the Destron Wing Team.
"The operation has failed,"
Chaingun's furious shout echoed. "Destroy
everything! Combine!!" And at his command, they did just that, forming
Sixwing. As Sixwing flew freely through
the air and attacked, the Cybertrons found themselves faced with a
difficult fight.
"Well, we'll just combine too,"
Sixturbo said, entering the fray, but he also found himself hard pressed
by a foe who could transform at will while
attacking from the sky.
"Help's on the way!" Sixliner
said, arriving to back him up. In his
hand, he clutched a modified Vaccine Program Gun. (This
was a modification of the program that saved
the reverse-evolved Sixturbo. Sireen had
developed it in the hope that it might reverse-evolve
Destrons into Cybertrons.) "Bullseye!"
Sixliner scored a direct hit on Sixwing. As
Sixwing suffered in pain, his body began to turn white.
"Just the opposite of what
happened to 'Turbo," Sixliner rejoiced in his success.
Reborn in mid-air into a pure white
body, Sixwing now sported a Cybertron emblem gleaming on his chest.
"Welcome back, CYBERTRON
warrior Sixwing," Sixturbo said, extending his hand.
"Wait!" Sixliner said, holding
him back. "Look at his Cybertron mark."
They heard a sinister chuckle from the white Sixwing, who bore a purple
Cybertron symbol on his chest. "Just as
I'd planned. I've gained a new power,
the power of an evil Cybertron. Behold
the birth of Berserker Sixwing!"
...and the battle between
Cybertron and Destron continues...

Sixwing Robot Mode |

|
Sixwing
is the robot created by combining all 6 vehicles and the additional parts
included in this set. He stands at 7" tall and
approximately 4.5" wide
(arms to side) when fully combined.
I did not find any
translations online for Sixwing in gestalt mode which is normally
included with the re-issue Micromasters. If anyone finds them,
send them my way so I can update this page :)
TRANSFORM TO ROBOT MODE: I'll
start with transforming the legs, torso, then arms as I did with
the other Micromasters. Remember, the transformation
instructions below start with each figure in robot mode vice vehicle mode. The first
thing you need to do is start with Falcon & Flanker. Both of
these figures have peg holes at the end where the engines are located which need to be connected to
the pegs on each foot. Flanker connects to the right foot and
Falcon connect to the left. If you're unsure which foot is the
left or the right, just turn it over and you'll find either an "L" or
"R". The wings of each jet should face towards the toes.
Make sure you fold out one of the wings (outer leg) for each jet.
Collapse the "L" joint for each jet which will lock in place and
provide support for Sixwing. Now take the pelvic/thigh part and attach the knee pegs to the holes
underneath the front of each jet. The nubs on the front of the
vehicles should lock into place.
Now onto the torso.
Take Missile Run and transform it so that the nosepiece is in its'
original position (jet mode), fold out the wings, then rotate the
Turquoise legs downward 90. Missile Run should be in an "L"
shape. Connect the chest piece peg located in the center towards the rear to
the end of Missile Run and combine it to the torso part. Now connect the chest to the legs by inserting the pegs of
the chest piece to the holes on the back of the pelvic/thigh piece.
The next part will
connecting Chaingun to Sixwing's back. Rotate Chaingun's
lower-half of his body at the waist downward 90. Now rotate the
nosepiece upward 90 and connect him to the peg behind Sixwing's pelvic region.
The next part to work on
is the left then right arms. Take Supersonic and straighten out
the joints connecting to his Black legs. Rotate the rear
section downward 90 which will connect at the shoulder. Connect the left fist
by placing it over Supersonic's head. This should lock into place. Now connect
Supersonic to Sixwing's left shoulder peg. Left arm is
complete. |

Close-up of Sixwing's
head
Moving on to the right arm, rotate the
lower-half of Raker downward 90 which will connect at the shoulder. Connect the right fist
by placing it over Raker's head. This should lock into place. Now connect
Raker to
Sixwing's right shoulder peg. The last
thing is to connect Sixwing's head to his body and gun to his fist.
Sixwing is a very colorful figure and Purple
is the most apparent. I really like his helmet and the choice of
colors for his eyes.
As with the other
Micromasters,
Sixwing has very little
articulation in robot mode. His head can rotate and his arm
can raise/lower to the side as well as the front. There isn't
really much room to extend his arms towards the front since his chest
piece extends over the shoulders. The photo above gives you
an idea of what I mean.
Since there aren't any
stickers to this re-issue, I think that the placement of the Destron
symbols on Sixwing are just fine as they are clearly visible in both
vehicle & robot modes.
Overall, I really like
all of the Micromaster reissues and especially Berserker! Sixtrain
is in hand and will be updated on my site soon. I have no idea if
anymore Micromasters will be released, but hopefully the re-issues don't
end anytime soon :)

to Doug Dlin for the translations ** |
