CYBORG99
(Double-Nine)
& KING WALDER II |
|
In 1999,
Takara released a new line of Henshin Cyborgs called Cyborg99 (Double-nine). These
figures have some differences compared to the Neo Henshin
Cyborg line. The major difference is the
magnetic joints introduced in this line and increased
articulation. There are magnemo-11 ports on his back that
was probably introduced to "interchange" with other Takara lines such as
Microman since many of the figures (Robotmen, MagneTitans, Acromonsters, etc.) use
magnemo-11 joints. The other difference is the removal of the LED function,
reduction of internal machinery, less-poseable hands, and removal of the boots which were
replaced by feet. |

The packaging is quite nice but
there aren't any additional weapons attachments...besides the detachable
"karate-chop" and "cupped" hands. I really think the NHC figure
is better in appearance but the Cyborg99 has the NHC line beat in articulation.
The mechanical head has
been modified with a "back-lit" function. The plastic part is clear
and located at the top and back of the head and connects to the eyes.
It's actually one piece and when the light shines through it the eyes glow.

Many costumes have been created for the Cyborg99 figure are
are sold as a standard set (costume only) or DX set (costume and Cyborg99 figure).
There were three Cyborg99 figures released in this line (Gun Metal, Blue &
Green) with two receiving the axe (Gold & Silver). |
King Walder II figures are the Henshin Cyborgs arch enemy.
This new line (1999) was created based on the original King Walder villain in the
70's. But of course Takara had to make improvements to make it more desirable.
One of the biggest changes from the Neo Henshin line is the fact that the body is
no longer vinyl (Walder Monsters), but rather the Cyborg99 body which has magnetic joints
and the such. The KW2 figures have organic innards vice mechanical, vinyl alien
heads (can be removed), and are currently available in Red & Purple (Magma &
General respectively).
Magma is a translucent-red
figure with a wicked detachable head which has spiked hair. This is my
favorite of the two King Walder II figures. Takara originally had four
figures that were going to be produced (Magma, General, Evil and Shadow) but
the last two received the axe. |

As with any
Cyborg figure, various weapon attachments are part of the
package. The KW2 figures have 2 weapons depicted
on the right.
In addition to the KW2 figures,
Takara released a line of Heroes Costumes inspired by 70's
Japanese TV characters such as Spectreman, Dr. Gori, Tiger 7,
etc. |

These releases come in two types of
packages; ST (Standard version), & DX (Deluxe version with
suit). A list of the costumes can be found on my Cyborg
Checklist, but go to my Heroes Costumes page to check them out. |

King Walder II - General |
|

My second King
Walder II figure is General
which has an afro-like detachable head. Each figure is
packaged in a colorful yet interesting box. The front flap
opens up to reveal the figure under a cellophane sheet.
As with any Cyborg figure, various weapon
attachments are part of the package. The KW2 figures have 2 weapons depicted
on the rigt. |

One thing I don't like about the
packaging is that all parts are kept in place with a molded plastic shell
which is glued to a cardboard sheet. The only way to remove the figure
is to cut it from the backing. Each figure has a cardboard sheet which
was actually covered the cellophane that was removed and inserted into the
box. This card depicts all four figures and eight weapons. |
