CHORO-Q ROBO
Convoy, Megatron, & Rodimus Convoy

CONVOY
Q/01 - TV Version & Q/02 - Metallic Version

Takara released the first of three sets of Choro-Q Robo figures in September, 2001.  It took me awhile to finally break down I purchase these figures, but I'm glad I did.  I placed my order through a few online stores which arrived at the end of August, 2002: BigBadToyStore.com, Robobase.com, and WizzyWig.com.

Convoy was released as TV Version (Q/01) and Metallic Version (Q/02) which are shown on the right.  The box is quite small and measures approximately 5"(1.25" Flap)Hx3.25"Wx1.875"D, with a cellophane window on the front and transforming instructions on the back.  Each figure is placed in a molded plastic tray (with cover) in Robot mode and has a weapon that can be attached to their fist.

Convoy stands at 2.25" tall in Robot mode and 3" long in Vehicle mode.  The main difference between the two figures is the color.  The TV Version has Blue windows, a Grey stripe on the sides of the trailer, and Blue eyes whereas, the Metallic Version has Black windows, Blue stripes on the trailer, and Yellow eyes.  You should be able to see this in the photos on the right.  There is a tampo stamped Autobot symbol on his left shoulder as well as on the either side of the trailer.  I think the Metallic Version stands out a bit more since the plastic parts have glitter mixed in with the color that give it an overall "shimmer" appearance.  The only thing I would have added are painted window on either side of the cab (driver/passenger).  It looks a little plain as is.

These figures are really neat in the fact that they have a pull-back motor which allow it to roll nicely on a smooth surface and their overall appearance is excellent!

MEGATRON
Q/03 - TV Version & Q/04 - Black Version

The second set of figures released in December, 2001 is Megatron in both TV (Q/03) and Black (Q/04) Versions.  The box dimensions and packaging style is the same as Convoy's.  On the back on the box you'll find the transforming instructions which are divided into two easy steps even though the number of parts moved is seven.  Megatron is the only figure of the three that doesn't have a separate weapon because he transforms into a Gun.

Megatron stands at a little more than 2.5" tall in Robot mode and 3.75" long in Weapon mode.  Megatron's TV Version is Grey (light & dark) & Black with a White painted face whereas, the Black Version is Brown & Black with some Silver on his face and toes.  Of course the Black Version has the same glitter appearance as with Convoy & Rodimus Convoy's Metallic Versions.  The Decepticon symbol in tampo marked on his chest in Purple and Silver (Black Version).

When I first removed Megatron from the box, I thought that it wouldn't be a true Choro-Q figure because it isn't a vehicle.  I was quite wrong after I transformed it into Weapon mode since there are wheels underneath.  It's kind of odd to have a rolling Gun, but very original if you ask me :)

RODIMUS CONVOY
Q/05 - TV Version & Q/06 - Metallic Version

The third set of figures released in December, 2001 is Rodimus Convoy in both TV (Q/05) and Metallic (Q/06) Versions.  The box dimensions are slightly wider than that of Convoy and Megatron measuring approximately 5"(1.25" Flap)Hx3.25"Wx2.125"D, with a cellophane window on the front and transforming instructions on the back.  The instructions are divided into two easy steps with a total of four parts that are moved.  Rodimus Convoy also comes with a weapon that can be attached to his fist in Robot mode or on top of his tailfin in Vehicle mode.  There is a slight difference in Vehicle mode when you look at the figure and the box art.  The photo on the box is missing the fenders over the rear wheels.  The addition of these fender definitely improved the appearance of the vehicle.

Rodimus Convoy stands at at little more than 2.25" tall in Robot mode and 2.75" long in Vehicle mode.  Rodimus Convoy's TV Version is Maroon, Orange, Silver, Yellow, and Blue with a White face whereas, the Metallic Version is Maroon, Copper, Gold, Black with some Silver on his face.  His Autobot tampo marking is located on the hood in Vehicle mode which becomes his torso in Robot mode.  The addition of flames on the hood and sides of the vehicle really look sweet!  Rodimus Convoy is by far the better looking figure of the three.

I am very impressed with the overall appearance and play value in this line of Choro-Q Robo figures.  Their color schemes, especially the metallic glitter, really improves the appearance and the fact that all three figures have a pull-back motors increases their playability.  This line gets two thumbs-up and hopefully more will come down the pipe.
