Mammoth Hook & Big Cannon Missiles
There are 2 Big Cannon Missiles and 2 Mammoth
Hook Missiles that are included with Black Big Convoy. The
instructions identify the Hook Missiles as "Haken".
Thanks to Symbiot for pointing out the true
translation of this Dutch word as "Hook" :)
The long missiles can be inserted into the cannon
which is located underneath his Mammoth shell. The crescent
missiles can be inserted into their launcher which is located on the
inner circular-like parts of his body.
There are a couple of gimmicks in Beast Mode which
can are within the tusks & trunk. The trunk can be raised and
lowered by pulling back on the lever on his head. The second
gimmick (tusk) can be activated by pulling back on each of his ears
which raise and lower each tusk individually.
BEAST MODE: Black
Big Convoy is a
Mastodon/Wooly Mammoth in this mode which really looks good with its
Black to Gold (sprayed on lower part) colors, Grey tusks, and
metallic-Blue eyes.

Wooly Mammoth Beast Mode
There are a total of 15 parts which make up his
shell. He measures 10"x5.25"x3.25" with his tail extended.
Articulation is quite limited in this mode with its gimmicks plus a
movable tail and ears that can fold out. That's basically it in
this mode. Big Convoy's grooves on his body producing a fur-like
appearance and the tusks have grooves producing an aged appearance.
So overall, Black Big Convoy's mold looks realistic in my opinion.
The only change I would have made in the colors are the buttons on his
sides which are Black. I think Gold would've been more appropriate
to blend in with the painted lower-half of his body.

Profile of Wooly Mammoth
When Black Big Convoy is
in his Tank Mode, his Mammoth Cannon and Mammoth Hook missile
launchers are exposed.

MAMMOTH TANK MODE: Black
Big Convoy has an alternate mode which is called Mammoth Tank Mode.
To transform into this mode, lift his butt part which separates from 2
peg holes on his hind legs. Separate the back parts and fold them
downward. The parts are connected by ball and sockets as well as
hinge joints on the body. Fold the back/butt parts (including
cannon) upward 90°. Separate the tusk parts slightly and pull up
the head/trunk so that the head/back/butt parts appear to float above
his body.
Separate the joints at
his head and pull the parts outward. Rotate the trunk/cannon/butt
parts 180° and push down the rear part (formerly head part) so that it
seats into place. Lift up the cannon/butt part then fold back the
butt/tail piece to expose the cannon. Fold down the cannon so that
it rests parallel to the ground. You'll have to adjust the back
parts which folds over and rests on the ears. Pull out the
round-like parts on the sides of his body to reveal the Mammoth Hook
launchers.
Insert the Big Mammoth
missiles into the spring-loaded cannon and Mammoth Hook into the
launcher. To activate the cannon, turn the Grey knob on top
clockwise. To fire the crescent missiles, push the Black buttons
on either side of Black Big Convoy.
ROBOT MODE: To transform into
this mode, lift his butt part which separates from 2 peg holes on his
hind legs. Separate the back parts and fold them downward.
The parts are connected by ball and sockets as well as hinge joints on
the body. Fold the back/butt parts (including cannon) upward 90°.
Separate the tusk parts slightly and pull up the head/trunk so that the
head/back/butt parts appear to float above his body. Separate the
joints at his head and front legs, then rotate the entire lower-half so
that it is aligned with the rest of his body. You should see the
pelvic region, knees, and legs of the robot.
Pull out both round parts (connected to side of the
robot's legs) and rotate it upward 3 notches (ratchet locking joint).
At his feet, rotate the leg parts upward behind the robot's calves which
lock into place. Separate the feet by folding the heels and toes
upward. You should be able to stand the figure on its newly formed
feet. Rotate the upper body 180° at the waist. Remove the
fists from the pegs (on back) and rotate the arms at the shoulder 45°,
then extend the arms at the elbows. Rotate the entire arm
(shoulder to fist) 180° at the second shoulder joint. Fold out the
Mammoth tusks and parts 90°, then rotate them forward slightly--should
look like wings on his back. Lift both arms upward to lock the
Grey shoulder joints. Fold arms in and down at the
shoulders. Push upper body downward to waist to reveal Convoy's
head. Rotate the tusk parts 90°--should look like Convoy has
shoulder pads (Mammoth ears folded down). Rotate the trunk/butt
part 90° so that the head is on Convoy's right side. You may have
to adjust some parts to get it right. The cannon should be folded
inward closest to the body and butt part folded back. Finally,
fold out Grey horns on Convoy's head...you're done!

Black Big Convoy in
Robot Mode Black Big Convoy stands at 9"
tall and 9" wide (from tusk to tusk). In this mode, his color
scheme is mostly made up of Black, Grey, Silver & Gold. There are
plenty of Gold and Silver painted parts to highlight this figure and
looks excellent with mechanical-like molding. Black
Big Convoy has several
point of articulation with several kinds of joints
which are listed below:
1. Head -
ball and socket
2. Shoulders - ball and
socket
3. Elbows - ball and
socket, hinge
4. Wrists - hinge
5. Waist - swivel
6. Hips - ball and socket,
ratchet-hinge
7. Knees - upper-leg twist,
two-part hinge
8. Ankles -
hinge, ball and socket (toes/heels) |

Mammoth Hook & Launcher
on Big Convoy in Robot Mode
Black Big
Convoy has two Mammoth Hook launchers on each side of his leg need
to be rotated forward one notch. The missiles can be fired by
pressing on the outer button.

Black Big Convoy with
Tonfas
Black Big Convoy has another pair of weapons called
Tonfas which are hidden behind his forearms. To transform, fold
out the forearm covers, fold out the Tonfas, then replace the covers.
Lastly, connect the Tonfas' peg underneath each fist.

Black Big Convoy with
Cannon
Another weapon that is in his inventory is
the Cannon which is created using the trunk/back/butt parts that are
connected to his back. To create the Cannon, separate
the head/cannon part from joint on his back. Now rotate each flap
90° at the ball and socket joint and fold out the small panel (top of
head) as well as the cannon's handgrip which is hidden. Lastly,
fold down the butt/tail part downward and the back flaps outward to form
some sort of blast shield.
The end result should look like the photo below.

Cannon
Black Big Convoy's torso is
made of translucent-Grey (smoke) plastic. It is highlighted by
Gold parts which is quite detailed.

Cybertron
emblem on chest
You can
see his Cybertron emblem above in Red and centered on his torso.
If you open up the Matrix Chamber you'll see that the Red Cybertron
symbol which is actually a spark crystal connected to the back.

Close-up of Black Big
Convoy's head
Black Big
Convoy's head is Black with Silver painted parts on his forehead and
mouth guard. His eyes are metallic-Gold and he has two Grey
moveable "horns" or antenna. Since his head is connected by a ball
and socket joint, his head has the capability to rotate as well as tilt
slightly.

Chest plate folded
down to expose Matrix
This
figure doesn't have a rub-sign but rather a removable Matrix. This
is located behind his torso piece (Matrix chamber) which has to be
folded downward to open.

Matrix
The Matrix is made of vacuum metallic-Gold with a semi sphere painted
Orange. There are handles on each end which fit perfectly into
Black Big Convoy's fists.

Black Big Convoy with
Matrix
Black Big Convoy has a challenging
transformation from Beast to Robot Mode and vice versa. His color
scheme is the best that I've seen...even better than Black LioConvoy in
my opinion. The Silver & Gold painted highlights really make this
figure stand out! His removable Matrix is just an awesome touch
and this figure his highly recommended!! |
