BIG TRANSFORMERS
 |
|
Kabaya
toy & candy kits are always popular with Japanese children and are
usually found in grocery store/supermarkets. Kabaya released a few
Micron Legend figures under the Big Transformer label in August 2003 and
each figure sells for ¥300 each. I received this set as a
complimentary gift from an online store due to administrative error with
my order.
These
figures are much larger than your standard PVC figures, have limited
articulation and paint applications, but are nice figures to display
with your collection of Transformers. A second set of Big
Transformers Ver. 2 has already been released but not added to my
collection. The figures released are; Jet Convoy, Shockwave &
Requiem Blaster, Jetfire & Skyboom Shield and Burning Megatron & Star
Saber. |

The case contains 5 boxes of Micron
Legend figures; Super Convoy Mode (x2), Convoy (x1), Hotrod (x1) and
Megatron (x1). I don't know if all cases have the same number
of Convoy Super Mode or if the duplication of other figures is
random.
The case measures approximately 10.25"L
x 4"W x 5.75"H and each box measures 3.75"L x 2"W x 5.5"H.
Within each box is the figure, lemon candy and printed on the inside
of the box are the instructions (shown on right).

Convoy
Super Mode (SM) is the first figure in this line-up. Convoy SM
stands at 4.75" tall and is packaged in two parts; Convoy Super Mode
figure & Back plate attachment (attaches to the peg holes on his
back).
It feels like there are two types of
plastic used to create Convoy SM. The plastic arms and head
are more pliable versus the rest of the figure. My guess is
that a more solid plastic was used for stability in the body.
The plastic parts are made up of solid colors with some parts
painted over them. I think more paint should have been applied
to improve the overall appearance. Black paint was used for
his feet and adding them to the wheels on his arms would look much
better.
Convoy's arms and
head can rotate which is the only articulated feature. There
are pegs on each shoulder so that you can connect Prime, Barrel or
even Jolt as shown in the photo on the right. There is also a
peg hole on the back plate attachment where can attach Convoy's Gun
(second figure in this line-up). Convoy SM's right fist is
also capable to hold Convoy's Gun, also shown below. |

Convoy
& Prime is the second figure in this line-up. Convoy stands at
4.25" tall and is packaged in three parts; Convoy figure, Convoy Gun
& Prime attachments.
It seems like there are more pliable
plastic parts than solid. His shoulders, back and legs make up
the solid plastic parts and everything else is pliable. As
with the other figures, Convoy has colored and painted plastic
parts, but definitely needs some additional paint. It just
looks too bland and boring.
Convoy's arms,
hands and head can rotate which is the only articulated feature.
His left hand is pointing while his right hand is slotted to hold
his gun. There are pegs on his back so that you can connect
Prime as shown in the photo below. |

Hotrod
& Jolt is the third figure in this line-up. Hotrod stands just
under 4" tall (4.75" tall with Giant Bazooka attached) and is
packaged in three parts; Hotrod figure & Jolt attachment in two
parts (connect propellers to body).
Also included is
his Giant Bazooka that connects to the slot on his back. The
photos here show his weapon stored and deployed.
As with the other
figures, there are two kinds of molded plastic used in this figure.
His head/visor, gun attachment and part of the arms are made of the
more pliable plastic. The rest of the figure, to include Jolt
is made of more solid plastic. The plastic parts are made up
of solid colors with some parts painted over them.
Hotrod's arms,
head/visor and gun attachment can either rotate or be removed (gun)
which is the only articulated feature. His right hand is
slotted to hold Convoy's Gun and there is a peg to attach Jolt on
his back. The back of the box calls the mode shown on the
below as Hotrod Evolution. |

Megatron
& Barrel is the fourth figure in this line-up. Megatron stands
at 5" tall and is packaged in several parts; Megatron figure,
Megatron Launcher (three parts) and Barrel attachment in two parts
(connect gun to body).
As with the other figures, there are two
kinds of molded plastic used in this figure. His head and
legs, to include Barrel and gun attachments are made of the more
pliable plastic, whereas the rest of the figure is made of more
solid plastic. The plastic parts are made up of solid colors
with some parts painted over them.
Megatron's arms
and head can either rotate, but his attachments have a little more
articulation. His turret base attaches to the square-peg hole
on his back and his Launcher can either be extended behind or
forward under his right arm.
His turret base
also attaches to his torso. You can rotate his missile part
forward as well as re-attach his launcher to the peg so that is
extends forward. The back of the box calls this Full Burst
Mode shown below. There are also eight pegs (arms, shoulders,
legs and turret base) to attach Barrel. |

|
| Here
are a couple of photos of Jolt, Barrel and Prime. The length
of these figures range between 0.75" to 1.25" in length.
All three have peg
holes underneath to attach to the main figures. Barrel is the
only figure which feels like it's made of more pliable plastic as
opposed to the others.
Jolt's propellers
can rotate with some effort and Barrel's guns can rotate to the
rear. Prime is the only figure left without any moveable
parts. |
